Stars Boys Hockey Bounces Back With Shutout Win

Holy Angels blanks Red Wing, 5-0, in first game since Missota win streak ended; Richfield boys hoopsters top St. Thomas.

The Holy Angels boys hockey team rebounded from its first Missota Conference loss since 2001 with a shutout victory at Red Wing as the also got back on the winning track in Classic Suburban Conference play at St. Thomas Academy on Tuesday night.

Holy Angels Boys Hockey: Stars 5, Red Wing 0

After its 141-game Missota winning streak came to a close last week at Chaska, the struck up what it hopes to be a new victory string with a 5-0 triumph at Red Wing.

Five different Stars—CJ Smith, Zach Hartley, Nick Sauro, Connor Hurley, Bennett Courrier-Oaster—scored in the win, with Brett Pierce making 15 saves for the clean sheet.

The win improved Holy Angels to 16-8 overall and 12-1 in the Missota with a road trip at conference rival New Prague at 7 p.m. Friday.

Richfield Boys Basketball: Spartans 69, St. Thomas 61

After losing out on its shot at second place in the Classic Suburban Conference (CSC) last week, the Richfield boys basketball team held on to its No. 3 conference position with a 69-61 win at St. Thomas Academy.

The two teams were tied, 38-38, at halftime before the Spartans surged to the win by holding the hosts to 23 points in the final 18 minutes.

John Johnson led Richfield with 21 points, with Jared Noonan and Daron Garvis scoring 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Up next for the Spartans is a trip to Mahtomedi for a 7 p.m. tip-off on Friday night.

Richfield Girls Basketball: Hill-Murray 72, Spartans 60

The Richfield girls basketball team fell to third place in the CSC with a 72-60 loss at conference leader Hill-Murray.

Jessica January led the Spartans with 21 points in the loss, with Sierra Ford-Washington logging 15 points and Bryann Guyton recording 11 points.

Richfield, now 17-4 overall and 8-3 in the CSC, hosts non-conference opponent Minneapolis Roosevelt at 7 p.m. Thursday night.

Holy Angels Boys Basketball: Farmington 54, Stars 52

The Holy Angels boys basketball team came within two points of its first Missota victory before losing, 54-52, at Farmington to fall to 4-17 overall and 0-9 in the conference.

The Stars led their hosts, 31-22, at halftime before the Tigers roared back to claim the victory; Danny Sullivan led Holy Angels with 13 points, while teammate Sam Rosch scored 11 points.

A trip to Shakopee for a 7:30 p.m. start on Friday is next on the slate for Holy Angels.

Holy Angels Girls Basketball: Farmington 58, Stars 40

A 58-40 loss to visiting Farmington dropped the Holy Angels girls basketball team to 5-18 overall and 1-10 in Missota play.

led the Stars with 18 points, with Mary Margaret Duffy notching nine points in the loss.

Holy Angels hosts Shakopee at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Richfield Boys Hockey: Mahtomedi 7, Spartans 2

The Richfield boys hockey team fell to 8-14-1 overall and 1-7-1 in the CSC with a 7-2 home loss to Mahtomedi.

Tyler Klopp and Tyler Martinez both scored for the Spartans, with Donovan Keller making 31 saves despite being saddled with the loss.

Richfield returns to conference play with a home game against Simley at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night.
