Big Saturday For Richfield Gymnasts, Wrestlers

Metz, Tseng wrap up high school careers at state meet as two Spartans wrestlers qualify for Class AAA tournament.

While a pair of Richfield gymnasts were competing at state, two Spartans wrestlers were qualifying for state as the winter sports season moved closer to its conclusion on Saturday.

put the finishing touches on their respective high school careers on Saturday night in the Class AA state individual gymnastics championships.

Metz, competing in the all-around for the second-straight year, placed 29th over the four events this time with a total score of 34.150; she scored an 8.725 on vault, 8.05 on uneven bars, an 8.375 on balance beam and a 9.0 on floor exercise.

Tseng qualified for state on the vault and took 31st in the event with a score of 8.65.

Richfield Wrestling: Arredondo, Dyer Qualify For State

Chandler Arredondo and Mike Dyer both qualified for the Class AAA State Wrestling Tournament, to be held March 4-5 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Arredondo, a sophomore, won the Section 6AAA championship at 189 pounds to improve to 23-6 on the season and earn his state berth.

Dyer, a junior, took second in the heavyweight bracket and now heads to the Class AAA meet with a 23-11 record.

Both are scheduled to begin state competition at 1 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

Also placing for Richfield at sectionals were: Obsa Ali (fifth at 103), Christian Wellens (fifth at 112), Mitch Wojcik (sixth at 160), Terry Hill (sixth at 215).
