Holy Angels Football Wins Season Opener

Stars claim 28-0 victory at Chisago Lakes on Friday night, as other local squads closed out pre-Labor Day schedules.

It was a successful start to the season for the football team as the Stars claimed victory last Friday night to highlight the closing out of the pre-Labor Day athletic schedule.

Ray Betton's second season as head coach of the Holy Angels football team got off to a gleaming start with a 28-0 blanking of host Chisago Lakes last Friday night.

Sam Keis threw for 98 yards and completed one touchdown pass to Will Pagel, while rushing for another score himself to spearhead the Stars attack. Anthony Bayash rushed for a team-high 89 yards and one touchdown, with Sam Keis also logging a score on the ground in the lopsided road win.

Holy Angels remains on the road this Friday as it opens the Missota Conference schedule at New Prague at 7 p.m. The Stars open their home slate at 7 p.m. on Sept. 16 against Red Wing.

Richfield Cross-Country

The took to Eagan last Friday for a run in ght Dakota Classic, with the Spartans girls finishing seventh and the boys eighth.

led the girls team with a fourth-place finish in 11 minutes, 56.6 seconds, with Jake Bauer pacing the boys with a 17th-place result of 11:20.9.

Holy Angels Girls Soccer

With two wins on a weekend trip up north, the Holy Angels girls soccer team evened its record at 2-2-1 on the season.

The Stars did not give up a goal in either of their victories, topping Two Harbors 7-0 last Friday and Cloquet 2-0 last Saturday.

Bridget Schoffman and Therese Wichmann enter this week tied for the team scoring lead with two goals apiece. Seven other Stars players have one goal apiece. Goalkeeper Danielle Mendez has made 25 saves on 31 shots through five games. 

Richfield Girls Soccer

North St. Paul was not the kindest of hosts for the Richfield girls soccer team as the Polars shut out the visiting Spartans, 9-0, in the season opener last Thursday. 

Holy Angels Boys Soccer

The Holy Angels boys soccer team also took a northern tour last weekend, earning one win and one tie.

Proving to be rude guests, the Stars blew out host Two Harbors by a 13-0 score on Friday, then tied Duluth Marshall 2-2 on Saturday to bring a 2-1-1 record back to the Twin Cities. Complete individual statistics were not available. 

Richfield Boys Soccer

The as the Spartans fell 5-0 at No. 1-ranked Apple Valley last Thursday.

Holy Angels Volleyball

The fell to 1-2 with a five-game loss (19-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-27, 9-15) at Benilde-St. Margaret's last Thursday. Individual statistics were not available.

Richfield Girls Swimming and Diving

Recording 40 points, the Richfield girls swimming and diving team finished seventh in the Classic Suburban Conference Relays last Thursday in Inver Grove Heights. Individual statistics were not available.
