It was a day full of fun and frolic, if not a little bit of learning, as the new was dedicated Saturday.
A morning of demonstrations by the and departments was highlighted by the landing of a State Police helicopter on the Heredia Park ballfield, much to the delight of the hundreds on hand.
The early festivities set the stage for the official dedication ceremony, emceed by Richfield .
"This building is the focal point of city government for you," Goettel said.
With assistance, Goettel then opened a time capsule preserved in the cornerstone of the former municipal building that was dedicated on June 5, 1966.
Among the items inside the copper box set inside the cornerstone were a Holy Bible, a 1966 dedication program, several local newspapers of the day, as well as a city phone/address directory.
A new time capsule will be preserved with the current building, with items inside including local print publications, emblems and badges from Richfield Police and Fire, a Blackberry, a cell phone, and a baseball signed by members of Richfield youth baseball, among other items representative of the city.
