Backyard Composting Class: composting the easy way


When: 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17.

Where: Southdale YMCA, 7355 York Ave. S. in Edina.

Details: Learn about backyard composting the easy way with master gardener Larry Cipolla. The class is the first of four free gardening classes at the YMCA.

SANGAMAM 2014

Book Launch Party: "Hollyhocks and Grasshoppers: Growing Up German from Russia in America"


When: 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18.

Where: Berea Lutheran Church's Fellowship Hall, 7538 Emerson Ave. S. in Richfield.

Details: Celebrating the publication of an anthology of stories from members, the North Star Chapter of Germans from Russia, an ethnic heritage group, will feature readings and a discussion of how the book was created with stories from multiple authors. Spaghetti Dinner to Support Midwest Powersoccer Association


When: 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18.

Where: Oak Grove Lutheran Church, 7045 Lyndale Ave. S. in Richfield.

Details: Powersoccer is one of the fastest growing wheelchair sports in the world. In Minnesota there are five competitive teams playing at novice to highest Premier level. The Saturday fundraiser will help raise funds to support team travel and facility rental for practicing. There will also be a silent auction, gift baskets and bake sale.
