Running Romance: Where The Story Began

How we met, growing up and unconditional love. Many of you read about me getting the surprise wedding proposal for the books. Now follow us as we plan our big day!

Here it goes. I’d like to call it a whirlwind romance, but running romance is simply a better fit. Colin and I (Stephanie Lubahn) have been together for 10 years as of Sept. 1. We met during a trip to Valleyfair right before my freshman year of high school.

As a freshman I made the varsity cheerleading squad and on the way to our very first away game all of my senior teammates convinced me that I should ask Colin, who was a junior at the time, out on a date. Sparks flew and the relationship grew. It hasn’t always been easy or perfect. Plenty of people along the way told us that we didn’t know what love was, or we were too young to know what we really wanted. Maybe that was true to begin with.

High school ended and we went off to college, which meant growing up, together and apart. We had some tough patches, and there were times when we thought we were both done and ready to move on.

In 2008 we participated with Landmark Education; both seeking out different results from their program The Landmark Forum. I wanted a better relationship with my mom and Colin wanted assistance with his career concerns. This amazing, life changing program not only delivered on what we wanted, but it opened our eyes to what we had in our life already: unconditional love.

Love so strong, that you feel like a balloon too full and ready to pop. Love that makes you smile every time your song comes on the radio. Love so deep it makes a guy who’s sometimes shy and would normally never make any kind of public display create and plan a proposal that would make any woman jealous.
