PHOTOS: Richfield Track Teams Compete in Section Championships; Some Qualify for State

The Spartans traveled to the University of St. Thomas to compete in the Section 3AA Track and Field Championships Tuesday and Thursday. Three athletes qualified for the state championships:

• for 100 meter hurdles (which she holds the state record), 300 meter hurdles and girls long jump.
• for pole vault, which she set a new section record on Thursday of 11-feet 7-inches.
• for the boys long jump.

The girls came in fifth place with 63 points, while the boys placed ninth with 31.5 points. Fifteen teams competed from all over the metro. Top honors for the girls went to Prior Lake with 129 points, while the boys honors went to Apple Valley with 107 points.

Here are some other girls highlights:

• Tia Rowe placed eighth in the 100 meter dash.
• Hannah Olson placed 3rd in the 3200 meter run.
• Sara Tseng placed eighth in the 100 meter hurdles and seventh in the 300 meter hurdles.
• Second place for the 4x800 meter relay team went to Erin Brault, Hannah Olson, Hannah Adams, and Charity Bilal.
• Jasmin Stephons placed eighth in the high jump.
• placed sixth in the pole vault.
• Chakia Hall-Watley placed ninth in the triple jump.

Here are some other boys highlights:

• Jordan Sefon tied for fifth in the 100 meter dash.
• Obsa Ali placed sixth in the 3200 meter run.
• Sixth place for the  4x200 meter relay team went to Jose Romero, Jordan Sefon, Brian Christian, and Wibi McDonald.
• Second place for the 4x400 meter relay team went to Jose Romero, Collin Randolph, , and Jordan Sefon.
• Third place for the 4x800 meter relay team went to Collin Randolph, Zak Beaudet, Obsa Ali, and Moses Mugwanja.
• Nelson Soto Moreno and Max Hamilton tied for 10th in the pole vault.
