Letter: Richfield Soccer Association in Need of Rec Director

Dear Editor,

We have reached a critical crossroads for Richfield Soccer. With registration for the 2013 spring/summer season right around the corner (Feb. 1, 2013), the time has come for the current board to make a decision on whether or not there will be a recreational league for the upcoming season. Despite RSA's request for a parent or adult to volunteer their time as the recreational league coordinator, unfortunately as of Dec. 14, no one has done so. 

The recreational league director is a big job: setting the schedule, finding coaches, organizing teams, and troubleshooting are some of the tasks required. There are people to help, though. RSA has board members in charge of uniforms, equipment, and field assignments, to name a few. Timelines and to-do lists, along with other support, will be provided. The board has also agreed to award a small stipend for this position.

The next RSA board meeting is Jan. 6, 2013. RSA needs a rec league director in place at that board meeting in order to move forward with registration and field assignment plans. If no one steps forward by this time, there will not be a rec league this spring and summer...there will not an opportunity in Richfield for children ages 4-8 to play organized, outdoor soccer. If this does happen, the board will continue to seek out a volunteer in hopes of reviving the rec league in the fall of 2013. 

Current members of the board have been working hard over the past year to improve the program, providing more opportunities than ever for kids to play soccer, have fun, and improve their skills. We know it's hard to find time to volunteer. All of us have jobs and families that make it difficult to find the time to give back to the community and our children. We hope to find at least one more adult in Richfield who is willing to do the same.
