Richfield School Has National Plans for Education Program
Richfield Middle School hopes to become a national demonstration school for its AVID program.
(RMS) announced at the board meeting that it will be attempting to become a national demonstration school for its .
The program currently serves more than 100 RMS students, providing them with supplemental courses, guest speakers and a chance for a college scholarship.
RMS Principal Brian Zambreno said that becoming a demonstration school would be a “national demonstration of our quality” and would help the school support other programs in neighboring school districts.
Michael Meister, an eighth grader at RMS, said that enrolling in AVID helped him reach a B grade average and that the program’s “binder checks”—where students’ trapper-keepers are dangled by teachers to ensure that no papers fall out—has taught him organization skills.
“AVID is important to me because I really want to go to college and make my parents proud,” he said. “I want to go to college and graduate college and get a job that pays well and is something I love to do.”
Richfield Patch will continue to update readers on the school's effort to be recognized nationally.
