Richfield Robotics Team Finishes Competition Low in the Standings, High in Experience

"Team 2989" finished the FIRST Robotics Competition at the University of Minnesota by placing 53rd out of 63 teams.

The robotics team from (RHS) entered this weekend's Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional consisting of a young team of mostly freshman and sophomores. Once the regional competition finished Saturday afternoon, "Team 2989" placed 53rd out of 63 teams in the tournament, according to the FIRST Robotics Competition website.

The team's leader, RHS teacher Mark Le Feber, said Friday that the team met its goals despite its overall finish. He said it's what the young team took from the experience that matters most.

"They'll be back. They'll be smarter. They'll understand when I say, 'We need to be moving faster,'" Le Feber said.

He added that the experience of building a robot and programming it to perform different tasks provided the students with a unique opportunity to tackle a project they wouldn't face in any classroom.
