PHOTOS: Former Richfield Players Return for First Alumni Basketball Game

Fifty-five former players take part in alumni games.

The first ever was held Saturday afternoon to raise money for the district's mens and womens basketball programs. Fifty-five former players, from the Class of 1989 to the Class of 2011, participated in the games and contests.

Organizer Jim Noonan was pleased with the alumni turn out.

"This is a good start and we should have even more next year as the word gets out," Noonan told Richfield Patch.

The highlight of the afternoon was the slam dunk contest. Many former players still had what it takes to put on a good show. But the people-jumping, high-flying dunk of Michael Rose impressed the judges and the spectators even more. Rose walked away with the slam dunk trophy.

"This was such a great time," said Rose. "I plan to be back next year."

Another returning player and assistant coach, Brian Rieger (Class of 1990 and Richfield coach from 1994 to 1998) commented: "It was great to see familiar faces, both former teammates and former players."

Both varsity coaches were also on hand to promote the programs. Mens head coach, Omar McMillan, emceed most of the afternoon.

"It was great to see all the former players," McMillan said. "[Today was] fun, fun, fun!"

Women's head coach, LeeAnn Wise, agreed and said, "This is great day for Richfield basketball."
