Richfield Roadrunners Recognized by Mayor for Winning State Championship

The Richfield under-17 traveling soccer team won the division championship this summer.

A handful of the Richfield Roadrunners soccer team accepted a certificate of recognition Tuesday night from after winning the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) Classic C division championship—for the second year in a row.

In addition to winning the championship, 10 of the girls had never played MYAS competitive soccer before, according to coach Sue Greimel. The team also boasts more shutouts and more points scored in 2011 than in 2010.

As Goettel presented the certificate to the girls, she said: “Our youth is our future and it is so great to [celebrate that] … Thank you for being a great example in the city.”
