(VIDEO) Updated: Senate Passes Vikings Stadium Bill

The Minnesota Senate on Tuesday approved a public subsidy package for a new Vikings stadium with a 38-28 vote. Richfield Sen. Ken Kelash voted in favor of the bill.

Tuesday's vote follows the Minnesota House's approval on Monday of its version of a Vikings stadium bill with a 73-58 vote.

Gov. Mark Dayton expressed joy at the outcome, but noted three more positive votes must happen before he can sign a bill. “Our work is not done,” he said.

The two bills must now be re-negotiated by a conference committee made of House and Senate members, and one bill created that each group can approve. That process is expected to begin Wednesday.

The House of Representatives passed the Vikings stadium bill late Monday evening. The bill passed the House 73-48, where it needed 68 to pass.

Reps. Linda Slocum (D-63B) and Paul Thissen (D-63A) both voted in favor of the bill. Thissen and Gov. Mark Dayton announced April 29 that 34 DFL members were planning to support the bill. He also called for House Speaker Kurt Zellers to take an up-and-down vote April 30. While a week late, Thissen's requests have been fulfilled.

The Senate is scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday to debate and vote on its version of the bill. The bill would have to be passed as-is in the Senate to be sent directly to Gov. Mark Dayton, otherwise a conference committee would be its next destination.
