City Council Approves Preschool for Former Taystee Building

The daycare and preschool will serve up to 38 children.

The former Taystee Bakery Outlet will soon be transformed into a Spanish-immersion daycare and preschool for up to 38 children.

The Richfield City Council approved site plans for the facility at its meeting Tuesday evening.

Rayito de Sol needed to move from its spot at Richfield High School to a new, more visible space in the community, and chose the former Taystee Bakery Outlet spot. The building's proximity to the daycare's current location and Augsburg Park made it an ideal choice.

Council Member Edwina Garcia expressed some concerns about parking with the site hosting just nine spots. The preschool's executive director, Luisa Fuentes, assured her that of the seven employees, more than half would not drive and park in the lot. This would leave many spots open for children drop offs and pick ups.

An opening date for the new facility was not announced at the council meeting.
