The cashier told police that a black man and an American Indian woman, both hiding their faces, had approached him as he was stocking cigarettes behind the counter. The man—later identified as Douglas—was wearing a black mask and holding something near his hip, and demanded that the clerk give him everything from the cash register, according to the complaint.

The clerk handed over more than $800 in cash, and the woman, identified as Ashley Cheyenne Skinaway, 23, of Minneapolis, demanded a pack of Camel Crush cigarettes, which the clerk also handed over, according to the complaint. Douglas and Skinaway then fled the store and drove away in a Chevrolet Cavalier.
