Man Charged With Threatening Richfield Couple

Police say Cleveon James Hughes showed up at a Richfield apartment building with a 15-inch knife, saying he had come to kill a man.

A Bloomington man has been charged with brandishing a 15-inch knife at a Richfield man’s home and threatening to come back and kill him.

Cleveon James Hughes, 43, is charged with making terroristic threats, a felony with a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint, the woman said Hughes arrived at her home holding a 15-inch knife. She told Police Hughes said he was going to kill her husband and then began walking toward the apartment building. When the woman told him not to go inside, he turned to her and said, “I’ll cut your [expletive],” according to the complaint.

Hughes entered the apartment and spoke with the woman’s daughter, who told police that she was in her mother’s bedroom when Hughes walked in. The daughter reported that Hughes appeared to be intoxicated at the time and was holding the knife. When he asked where her mother's husband was, she said she didn't know. After that, he reportedly said, “When you see him, tell him I’m killing him." As he left, he said he would be back to carry out his threat, the daughter told police.

Hughes is free on a $3,000 bond. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled June 28 in Hennepin County District Court.
