RHS Alumni Giving Fund Kick Off Event

The RHS Alumni Giving Fund is designed as a way for graduates of Richfield High School (MN) from all years to coordinate their efforts to support classmates who are going through challenging life circumstances.

Event details:

When: 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013.

Where: Richfield American Legion Post 435, 6501 Portland Ave. S.

Cost: $30 per adult, with an additional adult guest ticket being $20 and $5 for each child.

There are three goals of the Giving Fund:

1.  To provide a financially secure space where alumni and their friends and family can donate and trust that their gifts will be used to help classmates. This will be managed and overseen by a board of RHS Alumni as a 501(c)3 nonprofit to be organized in the next 6-12 months. A fiscal agent  will sponsor the fund until it is fully organized and recognized by the IRS.  (A fiscal agent is when another nonprofit takes accountability for the funds until the IRS has given you an official 501(c)3 status.)

2.  To have an ongoing fund that can be used as needed to support classmates in the most challenging and urgent of life's circumstances--illness or medical emergency, loss of loved ones, food, housing or transportation during times of crisis. We will have a fund that is ready and available when people need it, rather than having to wait for a fundraiser to get coordinated.

3.  To demonstrate pride in being from Richfield, and show support and concern for former classmates from all graduating years. Gifts will be used to assist financially, but also as a tangible way to let fellow graduates know that Richfield Alumni care and support them through whatever life throws their way.

For the event on Oct 26, the objective is to kick off the Giving Fund, as well as provide immediate assistance and support to classmates going through tough times. Our goal for this event is to raise $10,000 to start the fund, and recruit a board to begin to organize the fund into a formal entity. This board will put into place a decision making process for disbursement of gifts to classmates in need. The process should be quick and easy and accessible.

In raising these funds on Oct 26, there will also be an opportunity to provide gifts almost immediately to some classmates. This event will allow attendees to designate their gift to a particular classmate if they desire, or give to the general fund, or both.
