KSTP-TV: New Pipe under Penn Ave. Could Cost Fireside Pizza $40K

'I can't afford it,' owner told KSTP.

Fireside Pizza owner Rich Thompson aired his complaints on KSTP-TV Thursday about having to pay as much as $40,000 to upgrade city pipes to serve sprinklers in a planned expansion: 

Here's the glitch: the water main pipes below Penn Avenue were installed in the 1950's and are too small. If Thompson wants to expand, he needs to add a new water pipe as well. That new pipe could cost as much as $40,000.

"That's a lot of money and I can't afford it," said Thompson.
