'Bites Nearby' Minnesota State Fair Edition: My Sausage Sister & Me

This week's local restaurant feature brings you to the state fair.

There are few food vendors at the Minnesota State Fair that can trace their roots back to small town Minnesota circa the 1920s. My Sausage Sister & Me claim their origin in the butcher section of a grocery store in the town of Eden Valley.

Owned by Elmo Gaspar, the butcher block from that store was handed down to his daughters Cherie and Merry. They decided to carry on the tradition and now offer a collection of sausages at the Minnesota State Fair.

The stand is run by Cherie and Merry, as well as a team of dedicated "sausagiers." Among them are the very talented mother-and-daughter team of Catherine and Andrea Schoenherr. Cherie claims these Woodbury natives and sausage experts could very easily run the stand themselves.

My Sausage Sister & Me offers a constantly evolving menu of  sausage flavors. First and foremost is the "The Twisted Sister," an Italian sausage wrapped in bread dough and seasoned with parmesan cheese and Italian spices. When dipped in a side of marinara sauce, it delights with flavors that are rare for the fare on Underwood Ave.
