Best Buy Adding Microsoft Windows Stores Inside Its Stores

It's another attempt to capture the business of "showrooming" customers.

Richfield-based Best Buy announced in a joint statement with Microsoft Thursday that 600 Best Buy stores in North America will soon get Windows Stores inside:

“The Windows Store offers a large-scale, hands-on customer experience that will show customers how Windows and Microsoft devices and services can make it easier for them to work and play,” said Tami Reller, chief marketing officer and chief financial officer of the Windows Division at Microsoft. “We’re pleased to partner with Best Buy in bringing the latest technologies to consumers at scale in a unique environment where they can explore how Microsoft products fit together across entertainment, travel, music and other scenarios.”

The Associated Press asked Windows' CFO about what's behind the store-in-store concept: 

"You have to see and feel and touch these devices," Tami Reller, Windows' chief marketing and financial officer, said in an interview. "I feel like we have learned a lot in the last six months to make this experience perfect."

This spring, Best Buy announced that 1,400 Samsung Experience Shop locations would be unveiled in its big-box and Best Buy Mobile stores.

The popularity of those partnerships shows another side of "showrooming," the phenomenon of shoppers browsing in stores and then purchasing online.
