Somali Culture Workshop Back On

The workshop that aims to provide insight into the Somali culture was rescheduled for Nov. 10.

The Somali , sponsored by Family Stability Workgroup of the Richfield Community Council, was rescheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 at .

, Garat Ibrahim, who works with Somali refugees and Hispanic immigrants for the Center for a New Community, and Abdimalik Askar, who escaped the Somali Civil War in 1991 and now is working on a doctoral degree in leadership, will be presenting. .

The workshop aims to teach the community about the growing Somali population in the city and the Twin Cities as a whole. The workshop will focus on the basics of the culture—histories, family systems and beliefs—as well as the challenges Somalis face adapting to U.S. culture and their home country's civil war.
