Richfield Optimist Club's Avenue of Flags Project Starts May 30

The club gears up for its seventh annual Avenue of Flags project.

The is getting ready to begin its seventh annual Avenue of Flags fundrasing project May 30, which runs through Nov. 11, 2011, according to Bob Houlton, club member.

The club was established in 1958 to serve Richfield youth and the flag project is another way to further the clubs involvement in the community.

The project is a patriotic program that encourages homeowners and businesses to display a flag in front of their properties on six national holidays, including: Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Sept. 11 and Veteran's Day.

Those who participate in the program will have flags delivered to their home or business by optimist club members at dawn the day of the holiday and they will be picked up at dusk. The cost to be part of the program is $35 per year and all proceeds are used to support area youth and the community.

For more information, go to richfieldoptimists.org or see the attached PDF brochure, which includes the subscription application for the project.
