Pet of the Week: Little Lollie

Lollie was surrendered by her owner in August 2012.

Editor's note: This is a new weekly series called "Pet of the Week" where we feature a companion up for adoption from Pet Haven of Minnesota.

Every two weeks, Richfield Petco partners with Pet Haven of Minnesota for adoption events for dogs and cats that need new homes.

This week's Richfield Patch Pet of the Wee is Lollie:

Lollie is a Rottweiler Shepherd mix and is about one year old. Lollie was surrendered by her owner during a Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue in August of 2012.

She enjoys chewing on bones and toys, playing in the yard, and keeping overzealous squirrels at bay. She is very much like most dogs her age, though she hasn’t shown the Shepherd tendency towards toy hoarding.

Lollie seems to attach very quickly to one individual in a household (typical of the breed) and will serve as a guardian for that person. Her defensive patterns in this regard are being worked on in training since she has bared her teeth at resident dogs, though never showed physical aggression towards them.

She is well-trained, knowing how to sit for meals and treats; she is also working on “wait” commands, and has become very accustomed to gentle leaders for walks with her foster mother.

Lollie is 100% crate trained, 100% potty trained, great with dogs and cats, and has an average energy level.

Ideally, we feel Lollie is best suited in a home where obedience training can continue with her new family. Considering she is part Rottweiler, and knowing the bad press the breed has garnered in the past, we think Lollie’s demeanor make her the perfect ambassador for the breed.

Lollie would love a home with other young dogs to play with. And since we’re not sure how Lollie behaves with children, we would prefer a home without young ones because an abrupt change such as that could be difficult.
