Get Out: State Fair; Honoring Martin Luther King

Looking for fun activities for the weekend?

You know what the biggest activity in the state is this weekend!

1) Minnesota State Fair

When: Any day until Sept. 5, 2011 (Labor Day)

Where: Minnesota State Fair Grounds (1265 Snelling Ave. N., St. Paul)

Why Go: For obvious reasons! It's the Great Minnesota Get-Together!

Price: $12 for teens and adults; $10 for seniors and kids 5-12. Kids under 5 are free. ()

If you aren't going to brave the fair opening weekend. Here are four other options to take advantage of:

When: Aug. 27 from 12 to 3 p.m.

Where:

Why Go: Canine Castaways will have dogs, cats and kittens available for adoption and for community members to "aww" at.

Price: Free admission

When: Aug. 26 at 4 p.m.

Where: 

Why Go: Check out the varsity team as they open the season against Metro United Home.

4)

When: Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m.

Where: 

Why Go: Enjoy a live performance from 4onthefloor and the movie Strange Brew will follow at sunset, approximately 9 p.m.

Price: Free

When:  Aug. 28 from 2-5 p.m.

Where: 

Why Go: Community members are invited to an afternoon at the park to honor Martin Luther King Jr. and the 48th anniversary of the March on Washington with speakers, musical entertainment, refreshments and the opportunity to meet the sculptor of Freedom Form #2.
