Matt is a native Iowan. He moved to Minnesota in 2004. Since then he has written for newspapers, magazines and online publications throughout the state. Most notable is his entertainment writing, for which he had the opportunity to interview rock legend Alice Cooper, rapper Tech N9ne and Slim Jim Phantom of The Stray Cats, as well as director/actor Scott Cooper.

Matt has covered everything from girls' basketball to political speeches to theatrical releases. Being a football fan he has also written extensively on high school football for publications in the northern metro suburbs. Matt's favored area of coverage, however, is government, business news and crime reporting.

Currently he is the editor-in-chief of the Lions' Roar newspaper at Normandale Community College which won a 2010 Pacemaker Award for online content under his tenure. 

When not reporting Matt enjoys performing rock and roll music throughout the Twin Cities and Minnesota with his bands The Japhies and Fist City. He is an accomplished bassist, guitarist and drummer with over 15 years experience in writing, performing and recording music.

Matt lives in South Minneapolis.
