Athletes wishing to qualify for Red Bull Crashed Ice – Saint Paul, must battle 1-on-1 in a time trial for the opportunity to earn a spot on Team USA. The time trial is Sunday, Jan. 6 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Citizens demonstrated and converged on the state Capitol this afternoon to voice their displeasure with the impending state government shutdown.
Citizens marched through St. Paul to the steps of the State Capitol today where they voiced their displeasure at the current budget deadlock and impending government shutdown. Richfield resident and Patch contributor David Haines was on hand to snap photos and talk with protesters. Early in the afternoon Haines stated, "Not much here yet, just five demonstrators and a guy playing a fiddle ... sounds like that could change though." Barbara Hall of St. Paul, who was at the Capitol with the community action group L.I.F.T., said she was there to represent the people in her area that could not and come voice their opinion. Richfield Skating School and St. Paul Figure Skating Club present figure skating shows on Saturday.
The Richfield Skating School and St. Paul Figure Skating Club (SPFSC) teamed up for a day of figure skating programs at the Richfield Ice Arena on Saturday. The dual day of programs began with "One More Time: Music, Memories and Melodies" as members of the Richfield Skating School performed to the tunes of musical classics such as "South Pacific" and "The Nutcracker." Following the afternoon skate, the SPFSC returned to the ice for its 75th Anniversary Gala,which began at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
