The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Richfield, Hennepin County and much of Minnesota until 11 p.m. tonight.

A strong cold front is expected to move into northwest Minnesota and move through the rest of the state by early Thursday morning. Showers and thunderstorms will likely develop along this front across northwest Minnesota, and spread east-southeast during the afternoon and evening. Due to the strength of this storm system, severe storms are possible with the greatest threat expected to occur across west-central and central Minnesota through 9 p.m. The activity will likely evolve into a heavy rainfall event…

The rain is coming.
Richfield along with much of the state is in a severe thunderstorm watch until 6 a.m. Wednesday. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) website, strong to severe thunderstorms are likely to develop in the Dakotas overnight and move east to western and central Minnesota. The NWS goes further to say the potentially severe storms could also cause damaging winds, heavy rainfall and large hail. South-central Minnesota is also at risk for having thunderstorms continue into the day Wednesday. Currently, the NWS is predicting an 80 percent chance of heavy rain throughout Wednesday morning in Richfield.

We're having a heat wave ... a tropical heat wave.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an excessive heat watch for Richfield and much of the state and Western Wisconsin from Saturday afternoon through Wednesday in some parts. The beginning of the heat and humidity will spread across Minnesota Saturday afternoon in the west and southwest, and then across east central Minnesota and west central Wisconsin Sunday, according to the NWS website. Richfield's heat watch begins Sunday afternoon. During the five-day period, NWS is anticipating heat indicies to exceed 105 degrees for several hours at a time, with overnight lows only falling into the upper-70s and low-80s.
