After a 25-year-old Richfield man was shot and killed by police Friday, Richfield Police Chief Todd Sandell released the following statement during a press conference Monday afternoon: On October 5, 2012 at 8:53 a.m., Richfield Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance involving a man with a knife at a house in the 6600 block of Park Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, officers encountered an adult male, later identified as Jeffrey Michael O'Connor. During this encounter, O'Connor was shot by police. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Kare 11 is reporting police responded to a report of an emotionally disturbed man and a possible hostage situation just after 9 a.m. Friday.
Richfield Police are currenly investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday morning. According to Kare11, police were called to a home on the 6600 block of Park Avenue just after 9 a.m. on a report of an emotionally disturbed man and a possible hostage situation. An officer did discharge his or her weapon and authorities are now investigating. According to the Police Clips Facebook page, police have not confirmed whether the shooting was deadly. Police Clips also reported the Bloomington Police Department is handling calls for Richfield, however, Patch has not been able to independently confirm that. Yes, I knew Jeff . My son played with him over at there house. His mom would babysit my son. I did not know Jeff in his later years, but I know that he comes from a very loving and kind family and am so very saddened by this tragedy. Personally I think there was an error in someones judgement!   more ›
