Steve Christoff's Gold Medal To Be Auctioned Off in NYC

Several items connected with the "Miracle on Ice" team are going up on the auction block.

Richfield hockey great Steve Christoff will auction off his Olympic gold medal at an upcoming auction in New York. Christoff, a Richfield Spartan in the mid-70s and then a Minnesota Gopher, was a member of the 1980 mens hockey team often referred to as the "Miracle on Ice" team. The team beat the Soviet Union 4-3 with 10 minutes left in the semifinal game and then grabbed the gold when it beat Finland two days later. According to an Associated Press article, Christoff was the only player on the gold medal team to score multiple points and the first player from the "Miracle On Ice" team to be drafted and go to the NHL, playing for the Minnesota North Stars and the Los Angeles Kings.
