Richfield Home & Garden Expo Returns in 2013

The event is at Richfield High School Feb. 16.

After a one-year hiatus, the once annual Richfield Home & Garden Expo returns to town from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at Richfield High School. Richfield Visions, Inc., a local group that puts on the event each year, decided to take the one year break after low attendance at the 2011 show. This year's event boasts more than 50 home improvement professionals will be present to answer questions and give ideas. There will also be how-to demonstrations on eco-gardening, container gardening, tree care and tree preservation. Of course, representatives from the City of Richfield offices will be present to talk about housing, inspections, building codes and ordinances. There will also be a drawing for a new gas grill. Talking Trash: City Releases Video 'How-To' on New Garbage Ordinance

The new ordinance was approved after a resident disputed a citation and won in district court.

In addition to an arguably detailed diagram, the city has created a quasi how-to video. (Both are attached above to this article.) The new ordinance states that storage must be behind or alongside the principal structure on the property. The two-minute video shows two sample properties and outlines the requirements of the ordinance. The council first discussed garbage storage in August 2011, however, declined to pass an ordinance that would require screening cans. …
