Richfield Woman Accused of Attacking Man With Steak Knife

Police say Bernice Valerie Johnson was intoxicated when she attacked the victim, cutting him on his head with a steak knife.

A Richfield woman has been charged with attacking a man with a steak knife, cutting him on the head near his ear. Bernice Valerie Johnson, also known as Bernice Valerie Smith, 47, is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, a felony with a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and a $14,000 fine. The charge has a mandatory minimum penalty of a year and a day in prison and a $4,200 fine. Richfield police were called to an apartment in the 7700 block of Penn Avenue South just after 5:30 a.m. Dec. 16 after someone reported an “unwanted intoxicated individual” on the premises, according to the criminal complaint, signed by Richfield Police Detective Patrick Moriarty. Woman Charged With Felony Domestic Assault of Another Woman

Police say Ayia Avarahchyskiadarell Parker attacked the victim, who had to be rescued by her 14-year-old sons.

A Minneapolis woman with a history of domestic assault convictions has been charged with assaulting a Richfield woman. Ayia Avarahchyskiadarell Parker, 24, is charged with felony domestic assault, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Richfield police were called to a home just before 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5 to investigate a domestic assault, according to the criminal complaint. Police found Parker outside the house, wearing only a bra and jeans. They spoke to the victim, who was inside with her two 14-year-old sons. The victim, who was “extremely upset and hysterical,” had a difficult time giving a statement to police because she was so fearful of Parker, according to the complaint. The victim’s sons told …

Richfield Teen to Stand Trial As Adult For Death of Homeless Man

Andre Zedrick Steward Jr., 17, will stand trial as an adult in the beating death of a 50-year-old homeless man in Minneapolis earlier this summer.

A Richfield teenager arrested in July in connection with the beating death of a homeless man in North Minneapolis will stand trial as an adult on second-degree murder charges. Andre Zedrick Steward Jr., 17, is charged with aiding and abetting in second-degree murder, which carries a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison. He waived certification proceedings before a Hennepin County judge last week and was ordered to stand trial as an adult. Police say Steward and Willis Esposito Richardson, 23, of Minneapolis attacked 50-year-old Harry Lee Brown in North Minneapolis on June 29, with Richardson hitting Brown with a baseball bat and Steward punching the victim with his fists.
