Richfield's 'Unity in the Community' is Thursday Night

Richfield's Unity in the Community event is set for yet another year. The 2013 event will be held from *5-7:30 p.m. May 16 at Veterans Memorial Park. After holding a Cinco de Mayo celebrations in 2009, 2010 and 2011, the city expanded its May celebration and renamed it Unity in the Community in 2012. It's completely free and features entertainment, games, kids activities, free snacks and more. This year's event will specifically feature face painting, balloons, dancing, cultural displays, K-9 demonstration, storytelling, and city vehicles on display. For the last few years, Richfield Recreation's weekly summer concert series has been exclusively held at Augsburg Park on Thursday evening. This year, four other dates have been added as part of the "Music on the Go" series, and two venues currently vying to be the city's future outdoor performance spot are hosting the concerts. Lyndale Gardens, which is in the process of being redeveloped, and Veterans Memorial Park will each host two concerts beginning in late June. For nearly a decade, the City of Richfield has been toying with the idea of creating a music venue within the city. The Holy Angels tennis team is sponsoring a pancake breakfast on Veteran's Day.
Members of the Academy of Holy Angels tennis team and the school’s food service vendor, Taher, Inc., are teaming up to sponsor a pancake breakfast to raise funds for Richfield's Honoring All Veterans Memorial. The breakfast will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Veterans Day, Sunday, Nov. 11 at Holy Angels. The event has been dubbed "Net Gain—Serving It Up For Those Who Serve." “The men and women who fought to protect us and preserve the notion that mankind was meant to be free are much on our minds as Veterans Day approaches,” Steve Werle, Holy Angels social studies teacher and tennis coach, said in a release. “And our tennis team members and their families have chosen this project to honor them and to raise some funds for a lasting memorial.” …

In the spirit of worship—and summer—local Richfiel churches are teaming up for the Worship in the Park event at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 26 at Veterans Memorial Park. Worshipers should bring a blanket or lawnchair, sunscreen and a friend or two for the event in the great outdoors. Followin the event, event goers are welcome to stay for potluck, fun and fellowship.
