Patch readers give their thanks to past and present military men and women.
As someone who has always had a warm bed, family and friends by my side, and just a general sense of happiness and safety, I literally can't understand what it takes to be a member of the military. The simple comforts I've enjoyed and continue to enjoy are due to the opportunities this lovely country presents. And, of course, the service men and women work hard to ensure it stays that way. While it's evident that there's a long road ahead, I'm comforted knowing I'm not the only one who wants the best for every other American—and I'll go so far as to say, the best for everyone on Earth, even if we disagree on what "the best" is. Thousands of care packages to be shipped overseas for the holiday season.
Best Buy employees at the Richfield company headquarters are working hard to assemble thousands of care packages Friday. More than 3,500 packages will be sent to those serving in Afghanistan and Iraq over the holidays. The event is part of the company's Operation Patriotic Endeavor, which was created in 2011 by members of Best Buy’s Military Employee Business Network as another way for employees to give back to the troops. According to a Best Buy press release, the packages are stuffed with technology accessories, such as flash drives, DVD’s, Xbox games, personalized thank-you notes and pictures and letters from children. Once assembled, the pallets of gift bags will be loaded onto a Best Buy truck, which will be driven across the country …

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton recalled his visits to Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan and the beaches of Normandy during his short Veterans Day speech, delivered in Inver Grove Heights on Friday morning. During his remarks, Dayton also emphasized the importance of finding jobs for veterans, and touted the proposed expansion of the state's GI Bill as a step toward securing employment for some of the roughly 400,000 veterans in Minnesota. The speech was part of the state's official Veterans Day ceremony, which included a community breakfast, and presentations from other local and state officials.

This was a well written speech, but I am not certain how he could do the speech with a straight face. Most of the policies he backs are damaging to all these freedoms of which he was speaking. The Obama administration would like to shut down news outlets it does not agree with and would like to take control of the internet..
