PHOTOS: Richfield Holds Annual Urban Wildland Half Marathon, 5K

Hundreds of runners made a trip to Richfield Saturday morning to compete in the annual event.

Brian Sames of Shakopee took top honors in the half marathon finishing the 13.1-mile run at 1:14:30, while Sean Fox of Northfield took first in the 5K with a time of 18:32. This year marked the 10-year anniversary of the race and all proceeds help fund the partnership between Richfield Public Schools and Wood Lake Nature Center. LAST CHANCE: To Register For Richfield's Urban Wildland 5K, Half Marathon

The event is Aug. 4 and registration ends tonight.

Registration for Richfield's Urban Wildland Half Marathon and 5K race will close Monday, July 30 at 11:59 p.m. or anytime before that if registration is full. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the race and all proceeds help fund the partnership between Richfield Public Schools and Wood Lake Nature Center. All Richfield school children get the opportunity to learn about the environment by visiting the center throughout the year. The cost for the half marathon is $50 and the 5K is $30. LAST CHANCE: For Early Bird Urban Wildland Race Registration

The half marathon and 5K registration price will go up after today.

Registration for Richfield's Urban Wildland Half Marathon and 5K race is now open, however, if you want to get the early bird price, you must register by midnight tonight. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the race and all proceeds help fund the partnership between Richfield Public Schools and Wood Lake Nature Center. All Richfield school children get the opportunity to learn about the environment by visiting the center throughout the year. The cost for the half marathon is $45 and the 5K is $25. Richfield's Urban Wildland Race Opens Registration

The 10-year-old event is now taking accepting runner registration.

Registration for Richfield's 10th Annual Urban Wildland Half Marathon & 5K officially opened Feb. 1. This year's event will take place Aug. 4 with the half marathon beginning at 7 a.m. and the 5K at 7:15 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park. The 2011 event saw more than 1,200 athletes participate, with a handful of Richfield runners placing in the top 11 of the 5K race. Richfield Photo Hunt Winner: Kate Ryan

This week's Richfield Photo Hunt winner is announced.

Congratulations to this week's Richfield Photo Hunt winner Kate Ryan. Ryan is a communications and community relations specialist at Richfield's Minnesota School of Business campus and was quick to confirm the mystery photo as the entrance gate to Wood Lake Nature Center. Fun Fact: Ryan is an identical twin. Her sister, Molly, is pictured with her in the photo box of this article. Ryan, along with her sister, recently volunteered at a water stop at Richfield's Urban Wildland Half Marathon and 5K event. Thank you to all who participated in this week's photo hunt. PHOTOS: Richfield Urban Wildland Races See More Than 1,200 Athletes

The Saturday event drew more than 1,200 runners to Richfield.

Known as Minnesota's only "green race," Saturday's Urban Wildland Half Marathon and 5K races together attracted 1,233 runners, according to Mtec Results, the timing services provider. The annual race promotes enviornmentally-friendly practices and all proceeds benefit Wood Lake Nature Center's educational programs for Richfield Public Schools. Both races began and finished behind the Richfield Ice Arena at Veterans Memorial Park. Runners passed through shaded residential streets and neigborhoods, while also taking in the sights of Richfield Lake and Wood Lake Nature Center.
