Swimming Beaches, Ponds Open in Three Rivers Park District

Nine beaches throughout the west metro open May 25 for the 2013 season, according to a park representative.

Are you looking for a place to cool off this summer? Three River Parks has several swimming options.  Swimming Spots  Hours of Operation 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily Cedar Lake Farm Regional Park is open until sunset Cost Swimming beaches are free and unguarded.  Swimming ponds (Lake Minnetonka and Elm Creek) require a paid pass and small fee. Hours lifeguards are on duty vary. Visit the Lake Minnetonka Swimming Pond webpage or Elm Creek Swimming Pond webpage for details. Season passes are available. Infant and Children Children not toilet trained are required to wear swim diapers while in the beach and pond areas.   Information provided by Three Rivers Park District.

Richfield Swimmers Nominated for 'Athlete of the Year' By State Coaches Association

A handful of other swimmers received local recognition from their team and coaches.

Richfield's Andy Peterson and Duncan Pederson were recently nominated for swimming and diving's Athlete of the Year award by the Minnesota Swim Coaches Association. According to Marc Hamren, head coach of the boys swim team, this is a major award in the high school swimming community. The following short biographys were sent to the coaches association by Hamren: Andy capped off his six year Richfield swimming career with a stellar senior season. Not a club swimmer, Andy takes most of the season to get in shape, then tapers like crazy. At state he was 2nd in the 200 IM, lowering the Spartan varsity record to 1:55.68. In addition, he already holds Richfield's back stroke record of 55.35 (set as a junior), and is part of each of our relay …

Richfield Boys Swim Team Takes 7th at State

Some team members also set new Richfield varsity records.

The Richfield Spartans raced to a 7th place team finish at the State swimming championships today, setting three new varsity records in the process.   Andy Petersen, (12th) was the first to re-write the Spartan record board.  In the 200 yard Individual Medley, he was second in state with a time of 1:55.68, breaking Richfield's varsity IM record of 1:56.00, set in 2003 by Andy French.    Then it was Andy's classmate, Duncan Pederson's turn.  Duncan Pederson, (12th) became the fastest 100 freestyler in the history of Richfield swimming, going 46.92 to take second in state, and eclipsing Chad Tellinghuisen's record of 47.11 which was set in …

Richfield's 'Fast Four' Swimmers Qualify for State Meet

The qualifiers were led by 100 freestyle section champion Duncan Pederson.

Editor's Note: The following was submitted by Richfield High School boys swimming coach Marc Hamren. The Richfield Spartan Swimmers qualified for state in 6 individual events and 2 relays.   Spartan senior Duncan Pederson was on fire at Saturday's Section 2A swimming championships at the Richfield pool, winning the 100 freestyle. In the prelims, contested two days earlier on Thursday, he finished second to Monticello's Evan Lahr, who set the meet record at 48.65. Not to be outdone, Duncan turned up the heat in Saturday's final, winning the event and setting his own new meet record of 48.50! Duncan also finished second in the 200 freestyle with a new life-best time of 1:46.47. Duncan's performances qualify him for the state meet next …

Richfield Swimmers Praised by Opponent's Coach

South St. Paul Swimming and Diving Head Coach Matt Danielso said Richfield boys went "above and beyond" to make a new swimmer feel great.

Hello all -  I just wanted to drop a quick e-mail to praise your boys' swimming and diving team. I have a first year swimmer this year with Down's Syndrome who usually finishes about a minute after every other swimmer has completed the race. Often at our meets, the parents of my swimmers cheer, clap, yell for him and the opposing team politely waits, then claps for him when he finishes. Tonight in our dual meet against Richfield, the Richfield swimmers were lined up along the wall cheering him on and waving for him to go.
