More Richfield Natives Recognized for Collegiate Academic Excellence

See which Richfield natives have been honored for their academic efforts at the college level.

Congratulations to the following Richfield natives for being recognized for academic excellence and being named to the Dean's Lists of their respective colleges for the fall 2012 semester: In addition, Dylan Mohn received his Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, and Deann Garrett received a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Northwestern College. Richfield Enrollment Numbers Go Up

Richfield Public Schools are able to celebrate a little win this school year. For the first time in six years, the district was able to hold on to more students than it lost through open enrollment opportunities. According to a the Sun Current, the district saw a net gain of 119 students due to open enrollment this school year. There were 454 district residents opting to attend school elsewhere, while 573 students living outside the district chose to attend Richfield schools. Over the last 10 years the district has had net losses of as many as 104 students, the article said. Offering all-day kindergarten, availability of two choice schools (Richfield Dual Language and S.T.E.M.) and free transportation to any of the schools regardless of …

I also wonder where students open enroll from, and if they stay in Richfield through 12th grade. I wonder if a lot come from Minneapolis because Richfield has free all day kindergarten, and then go back to their own district for 1st grade? Just curious.   more ›

Globe College, MSB to Award Youth Retreats to 10 Minnesota Students

Globe University and the Minnesota School of Business (MSB) will award 10 Youth Frontiers  Responsibility and Wisdom retreats to 11th and 12th graders from high schools throughout Minnesota. Holy Angels Names Former Student as Finance Director

Richfield Whiz Kid: Jacob Hartle

Richfield Patch honors a recent graduate for his perfect high school attendance.

Richfield Student Cleans Up Community; Receives Scholarship Award

Alexander Gunderson receives a 2012 Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship.

Editor's Note: The following information was taken from a Comcast press release. Richfield High School graudating senior Alexander Gunderson was disappointed to see the amount of litter in many of the city's parks and dedicated his National Honor Society service project to cleaning some of them up. As a result, Gunderson received a 2012 Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship award for his efforts. With more than 20 parks in town, he drove around the city one night to see which parks needed the most help so he and his team of workers could make the greatest imapct. In the end, he and his team cleaned up seven of the parks. “I am proud to say that I was able to make a visible difference in my community,” Gunderson said in a press release…

Kiersti Phenow Receives Rose Rees Peace Award

The award recognizes a student who shows special interest in international relations and world peace.

The annual award honors a graduating senior who demonstrates special interest and a committment to world peace and international relations. Phenow was honored at a May 2 banquet, hosted by the National Council of Jewish Women. Other finalists for the award were Kellin Swanson, Maki Love and Tenzin Sonam.
