Richfield Boys Swim Team Takes 7th at State

Some team members also set new Richfield varsity records.

Editor's Note: The following was submitted by Marc Hamren, Richfield High School boys swimming coach. The Richfield Spartans raced to a 7th place team finish at the State swimming championships today, setting three new varsity records in the process.   Andy Petersen, (12th) was the first to re-write the Spartan record board.  In the 200 yard Individual Medley, he was second in state with a time of 1:55.68, breaking Richfield's varsity IM record of 1:56.00, set in 2003 by Andy French.    Then it was Andy's classmate, Duncan Pederson's turn.  Duncan Pederson, (12th) became the fastest 100 freestyler in the history of Richfield swimming, going 46.92 to take second in state, and eclipsing Chad Tellinghuisen's record of 47.11 which was set in …

Richfield's 'Fast Four' Swimmers Qualify for State Meet

The qualifiers were led by 100 freestyle section champion Duncan Pederson.

Editor's Note: The following was submitted by Richfield High School boys swimming coach Marc Hamren. The Richfield Spartan Swimmers qualified for state in 6 individual events and 2 relays.   Spartan senior Duncan Pederson was on fire at Saturday's Section 2A swimming championships at the Richfield pool, winning the 100 freestyle. In the prelims, contested two days earlier on Thursday, he finished second to Monticello's Evan Lahr, who set the meet record at 48.65. Not to be outdone, Duncan turned up the heat in Saturday's final, winning the event and setting his own new meet record of 48.50! Duncan also finished second in the 200 freestyle with a new life-best time of 1:46.47. Duncan's performances qualify him for the state meet next …

Richfield Runner Wins Section 3AA Cross Country Crown

Richfield junior Obsa Ali finished first in the Section 3AA cross country meet Thursday and qualified for the state meet.

Richfield High School junior Obsa Ali finished first in the Section 3AA cross country meet Thursday at Valleywood Golf Course in Apple Valley and qualified for the state meet. Ali won in a time of 15:35.0 on the wet and chilly 5,000-meter course. Rosemount won the boys division with 59 points. Richfield was 11th with 317. Eagan won the girls meet with 21 points. Richfield girls were 14th with 443. The state meet will be held Nov. 3 at St. Olaf College in Northfield.

PHOTOS: Boys State Swimming Prelims

The Spartans were well represented at during the preliminary round of the state meet.

The Richfield boys swimming and diving team advanced several individuals and relays during the Class A preliminary round on Friday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis. Advancing swimmers will compete in the Class A championship or consolation heats on Saturday at noon.

Richfield's Beaudet in Good Company at State

The Spartans senior will compete at Thursday's state nordic ski meet with his coaches and best friend in his corner.

It’s not every year that the Richfield High School boys nordic ski team send an individual to the state meet. Coach Steven Mills estimates it has been five or six seasons since the last Spartans skier made the trip. So when the black van with “Go Zak!” prominently displayed on the side windows pulled up outside the RHS gymnasium on Wednesday morning, Mills couldn’t help but smile. “Look at this,” Mills said. “That’s awesome.” The transportation paid tribute to Richfield senior Zak Beaudet, the hard-working captain who will compete Thursday at Giants Ridge in Biwabik, MN. He’ll compete in the state 5-kilometer freestyle race at 11 a.m., followed by the 5-kilometer classical race at 2:30 p.m. Beaudet, making his first trip to the state meet…
