It's March Madness as the CoCoRaHS program seeks local precipitation observers.
How much has it snowed in Richfield? If you join the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow (CoCoRaHS) Network, it could be you telling the National Weather Service how much snow falls locally, rather than the other way around. CoCoRaHS is a national network of precipitation observers whose measurements of snow, rain and hail help the NWS and other federal weather agencies predict floods and droughts, and take account of the situation when severe weather hits. A winter storm warning is in effect from midnight Sunday through 6 p.m. Tuesday.
By Tuesday evening, as much as 12 inches of fresh snow could be on the ground. The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has issued a winter storm warning for much of central and southern Minnesota, and western Wisconsin. Six to 10 inches is expected in most areas, with some storm totals reaching 12 inches. The warning is in effect from midnight Sunday through 6 p.m. Tuesday. According to the weather service, the storm will come through in two waves of moderate to heavy snow. The first will come Sunday night through Monday morning. Unfortunately for Richfield students, local school start times have not been changed Monday, despite the nearly 11 inches of snow that fell in town Sunday. As of 6 a.m., none of Richfield's private or public schools had announced any closures or delays. As many current and former Richfield Public Schools students know, snow days are few and far between in this town. The first heavy snowfall of the season is coming this weekend.
With a winter storm warning in effect for much of Saturday and Sunday, Richfield Patch wanted to remind residents of the city's snow parking ban ordinance, which went into effect on Nov. 1. Up to six inches are predicted to fall in the Twin Cities area.
