Sheridan Hills Elementary School students competed in the Minneapolis Aquatennial Milk Carton Boat Races Sunday.
Sheridan Hills Elementary School students set sail on Lake Calhoun Sunday in the annual Minneapolis Aquatennial Milk Carton Boat Races. The students raced two boats in two races: S.S. Yum Yum II in the Lieutenant's Race (a speed race) and Babe The Blue Ox in the Skipper's Race (a race for creative, bovine themed boats). Babe's team of sailors took home the creativity award, as students armed paddles with ax heads and dressed like Paul Bunyan. Unfortunately, S.S. Yum Yum II ran into a little trouble. The boat's predecessor, S.S. Yum Yum, won the Lieutenant's Race last year and the team was looking to keep the title. Fourth- and fifth-grade students built two boats out of milk cartons for the annual Minnesota Aquatennial Milk Carton Boat Race Sunday.
Sheridan Hills Elementary School fourth- and fifth-grade students will return to Minneapolis this weekend and will attempt to win another title in the annual Minneapolis Aquatennial Boat Races. Last year, the crew of the S.S. Yum Yum won their first heat and then took first in the final Lieutenant's Race, which was for kids under 12 years old. This year, kids have built two boats, one for the Lieutenant's Race and another for the Skippers Race. The S.S. Yum Yum's successor for this year's Lieutenant's Race, of course, is properly named S.S. Yum Yum II. Sheridan Hills Elementary School's Fun Fair was Friday.
Superintendent Bob Slotterback was a good sport Friday as he went plunging into a dunk tank at the annual Sheridan Hills Elementary School Fun Fair Friday. Students made and delivered May Day baskets Tuesday.
Sheridan Hills Elementary School students hit the streets near the school Tuesday to deliver a little spring cheer and May Day baskets to neighbors. "The students were so very exicited about doing something for the community," Principal Jodi Markworth said. "I had one second-grade teacher say, ... 'The few neighbors who opened their doors were very grateful.'" Marworth also said one resident brought in a thank you card Wednesday to thank the students who delivered the baskets, saying the gift brought tears to his wife's eyes when she saw it. Sheridan Hills Elementary School hosted its second annual Valentine's Day dance for students, their families and faculty members Feb. 3. Kid-friendly music played while party goers danced, limboed, indulged in sweet treats, made crafts and even hula-hooped.

Sheridan Hills Elementary School students took time off from standard spelling tests and math lessons Thursday afternoon to participte in the school's Winter Olympics. Sheridan Hills Elementary School's book fair with the large retailer was Dec. 14.
In an effort to raise some additional funds, Sheridan Hills Elementary School—along with other area schools—partnered with the Edina Barnes & Noble store for a book fair Wednesday. The elementary school's choir performed a few numbers, while student council members helped wrap holiday gifts for customers. The school's principal Jodi Markworth even led storytime. A portion of sales during the fair will be given to the school. The total has not been determined yet.

Sheridan Hills Elementary School welcomes parents and students to school for an open house and picnic to kick-off the 2011-12 school year a little early.
Sheridan Hills Elementary School invited students and their families to a back to school open house and picnic Thursday evening. Parents were able to see their children's classrooms before heading out to the playground area for a nice dinner under the sun. One student even seemed excited for the school year to start as he gave a teacher a big hug.

The results of the annual Minnesota State Fair Education Competition are in.
Sheridan Hills Elementary School first-grader Ashley Montano took home first place in the Minnesota State Fair Education Competition's Grade 1 individual exhibit for photography.
