Shop owner Luis Quizhpe took a baseball to the two men who robbed his specialty store in Chicago. A Richfield man has been charged in the incident.
Chicago store owner Luis Quizhpe didn't go down without a fight during a robbery Apil 9 that left him with a gunshot wound to the leg. While being held up at gunpoint, Quizhpe grabbed a baseball bat and started swinging at the two men attempting to rob him. And it was all caught on surveillance video. Despite being shot at multiple times, Quizhpe kept swinging at the suspect with the gun. Only one of the shots landed on the shop owner, hitting him in the upper right leg. As previously reported by Patch, Richfield resident Keith Owens, 51, was named as one of the suspects. He appeared in bond court Wednesday afternoon charged with attempted murder and armed robbery. Police and the Cook County Attorney's Office say Keith Owens was one of two men who robbed a store in Logan Square in Chicago last week.
A Richfield man suspected of shooting a Chicago store owner in an attempted robbery caught on video April 9 was ordered to be held without bail Wednesday. According to the Chicago Tribune, Richfield resident Keith Owens, 51, appeared in bond court Wednesday afternoon charged with attempted murder and armed robbery. Prosecutors said another man, Cornell Mack, 53, was also charged with attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and discharge of a firearm for the same crime last week. Shop owner Luis Quizhpe and his brother-in-law Luis Ernesto Aucaquizhpe tried to fight the robbers off during last week's incident. No weapon was used in the incident.
Richfield's TCF Bank at 6501 Richfield Pkwy. was robbed at approximately 11:42 a.m. Friday. According to an FBI press release, the robber approached the bank teller, provided a note and demanded cash. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the robber fled on foot. No weapon was displayed to the teller. The robber was described as an African American male, with a dark complexion, approximately 5-foot-10, 185 pounds and about 40–50 years old. He was reportedly wearing a dark waist length coat, dark jeans, dark rimmed glasses and a dark knit cap. The FBI is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of this subject. Dwayne James Douglas faces a felony charge of theft from a person after police say he demanded cash from a clerk at a Minneapolis and fled with almost $900.
A Richfield man has been charged with stealing nearly $900 in cash from a Walgreens drugstore in Minneapolis. Dwayne James Douglas, 21, is charged with felony theft from a person, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. According to the criminal complaint, compiled by Minneapolis Police Sgt. Jeffrey Harvey, police were called to the Walgreens location on Hiawatha Avenue South at about 1 a.m. March 24 on a report of a robbery. The cashier told police that a black man and an American Indian woman, both hiding their faces, had approached him as he was stocking cigarettes behind the counter.
