One repairs are completed on the eastbound lanes, westbound lanes will close.
Eastbound lanes on the 82nd and 86th street bridges over I-35W closed as of 5 a.m. Monday, May 13. Bridge decks and joints are being repaired. According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, once repairs on the eastbound lanes are completed, the westbound lanes will then close for repairs. The 82nd Street bridge is scheduled to completely re-open May 23, while the 86th Street bridge will reopen May 26. In addition, the 90th Street bridge will close in July. Construction on the 90th Street Bridge will parallel a City of Bloomington's project to reconstruct 90th Street between Penn and Lyndale Avenues.

The reconstruction of Penn Avenue in Southwest Minneapolis is well underway. Meyer Contracting crews completed pavement removals between 56th and 60th streets this week, and are now working on storm sewers. In addition, CenterPoint Energy is working on gas services between those streets. The first phase of road reconstruction began April 10. Penn Avenue is closed thru traffic between West 54th and 60th streets. However, all east/west cross-streets, including 60th and 54th streets, are open. In addition, businesses are also open through the construction. After being delayed by a couple spring snow storms and rain, crews have began working on the reconstruction of Penn Avenue in Southwest Minneapolis again. Currently, CenterPoint Energy and Meyer Contracting are respectively working on gas line and sewer replacement, according to a recent Minneapolis Department of Public Works e-newsletter update. The road construction season has officially begun.
Now that the weather has finally shaped up this week, crews are at work on Interstate 494. Drivers should be aware that multiple overnight lanes and ramp closures will be sprinkled throughout this week. The following is from MnDOT: At 10 p.m. May 6 through May 10, both directions of I-494 will be reduced to a single lane between Highway 100 and Xerxes Avenue. All lanes will re-open by 6 a.m. daily through May 10, and by 9 a.m. Saturday, May 11. At 10 p.m. Monday, May 6, and Wednesday, May 8, westbound I-494 between 12th Avenue South and Portland Avenue will be reduced to a single lane. All lanes will re-open by 6 a.m. the following day. Operations Superintendent Chris Link tells residents how to report potholes.
The most recent spring snow storm likely kept pothole patches off Richfield roads, but the road repair season is in full swing. City of Richfield Operations Superintendent Chris Link said crews are out and about in Richfield repairing potholes in a recent video production be the city. The only roads Richfield is not responsible for are county roads, which are Portland, Penn and Nicollet avenues, and 66th Street. To report a pothole on a city road, 612-861-9170. The project began April 10, and Penn Avenue is currently closed to thru traffic between West 54th and 60th streets. However, all east/west cross-streets, including 60th and 54th streets, are open. Eastbound and westbound traffic will also be reduced to one lane in each direction for for a few overnight stints next week.
Despite the recent spring snow storm, Minnesota Department of Transportation crews are continuing their work on the I-494 corridor. With the spring construction season underway, new closures will begin Sunday, April 14. The ramp from France Avenue onto eastbound I-494 will close until sometime in May, but may open sooner. Detour signs will be posted. In addition, at 10 p.m. on April 14 through April 18, both directions of I-494 between France and Penn avenues will be reduced to single lanes. Penn Avenue's Southwest Minneapolis stretch will begin getting a facelift Wednesday. The Minneapolis Department of Public Works recently announced Phase I of the avenue's reconstruction would begin Wednesday, April 10. Beginning Wednesday, the Penn Avenue will be closed to thru traffic between West 54th and 60th streets. Vehicle and bus traffic will be detoured to Xerxes Avenue via Highway 62 and West 50th Street. Richfield's side of Penn Avenue could also see an increase in traffic as a result of the detour.
