Richfield Grad, Runner Receives College All Conference Honors

Hannah Olson got the nod at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Cross Country Championships on Oct. 20.

Hannah Olson, a member of the Richfield High School Class of 2012 and student athlete, received All Conference honors at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Cross Country Championships on Oct. 20. Olson is a freshman at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and ran a 6K course with a time of 23:26, placing 17th out of 119 runners. She placed second overall for UMD runners. Her college team placed fourth overall out of 14 teams. Olson will participate in the NCAA ll Central Region Championships on Nov. 3 in Joplin, MO. Congratulations to Hannah, from Richfield Patch. Richfield Runner Wins Section 3AA Cross Country Crown

Richfield junior Obsa Ali finished first in the Section 3AA cross country meet Thursday and qualified for the state meet.

Richfield High School junior Obsa Ali finished first in the Section 3AA cross country meet Thursday at Valleywood Golf Course in Apple Valley and qualified for the state meet. Ali won in a time of 15:35.0 on the wet and chilly 5,000-meter course. Rosemount won the boys division with 59 points. Richfield was 11th with 317. Eagan won the girls meet with 21 points. Richfield girls were 14th with 443. The state meet will be held Nov. 3 at St. Olaf College in Northfield.

PHOTOS: Richfield Falls to DeLaSalle in State Title Game

Richfield makes it to the final round of the state tournament for the first time.

After a hard-fought battle against reigning champs DeLaSalle, the Richfield High School Spartans fell 65-45 in the Class AAA Championship game. Richfield had trouble getting use to playing at Target Center and the team’s failure to make free throws contributed to its demise. At the half, the Spartans trailed the Islanders 33-22, a lead that DeLaSalle would increase gradually as the second half went on. This is the second consecutive state championship title for DeLaSalle. While Richfield was unable to secure a victory, the community welcomed the team home at 9:30 p.m. with a celebration in the high school gymnasium. In addition, three players, Jessica January, Sierra Ford Washington and Bryann Guyton, made the 2012 Class AAA All-Tournament…

They kept up well in the first half, but as the article states, those missed free throw attempts could've made a major difference. We're only loosing a couple girls to graduation so we should have a solid chance at making it happen again next year!   more ›

Three Richfield, Augsburg College Athletes Receive MIAC Sports Honors

Three Richfield natives receive MIAC spring sports honors at Augsburg College.

Richfield High School (RHS) graduates and former athletes Donald Blunt, Adam Seaman and Jessica Hinz recently received All-MIAC (Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) spring sports honors at Augsburg College. Blunt and Seaman will be a part of the MIAC baseball team, while Hinz will be on the MIAC softball squad. This is the second straight year that Hinz received All-MIAC honors. Five Things You Need to Know Today: Richfield Pool Passes Go on Sale

Each weekday Patch features five things for readers to know about.

1) Season pass sales for the Richfield Pool will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Passes can be purchased until 6 p.m. at the pool’s bathhouse. 2) The following Richfield High School (RHS) students were nominated for the Tom Spooner Award: Patrick "P.J." Peterson, John Johnson, Collin Randolph, Kyle Maloney, Daron Garvis, Tyler Klopp, Nick Olson, Zak Beaudet, Jordan Sefon, Jared Etienne and Tyler Jegtvig. 3) There are just two weeks left to help Richfield win a $10,000 grant from Liberty Mutual to use for the Fourth of July festivities.
