Richfield Commission Picks Veterans Park as Best Bandshell Venue

A benefit concert and a public presentation of the project are coming up this week.

For nearly a decade, the City of Richfield has been toying with the idea of creating a music venue within the city. And now, with the work of some dedicated individuals, Veterans Memorial Park is being recommended as the building site for a bandshell. According to Richfield Parks and Recreation Director Jim Topitzhofer, the Richfield Community Services Commission was charged with looking at all aspects of the project. "[The commission has] been looking at various factors—how big it should be, where to put it, what kinds of uses will it have, how much it will cost," Topitzhofer told Richfield Patch. Richfield Band Boosters Present Second Annual Fundraising Concert

The Richfield Band Boosters partner with the Richfield Symphonic Band for a holiday fundraising concert.

Supporters of the Richfield Public Schools band programs will gather to hear the Richfield Symphonic Band play its second annual holiday fundraiser concert Sunday evening at Richfield United Methodist Church. With increasing interest in the band programs, budget cuts and the growing diversity of Richfield families, the Richfield Band Boosters have put together the concert event not only to raise money, but to also collect instrument donations. The money collected will go to buying new instruments and paying for instrument maintanence. In addition to the instrumental stylings of the Richfield Symphonic Band, guest organist Nancy Dierauer will also be in attendance. The Richfield City Council held its first meeting in its new chambers.

The Richfield City Council held its first meeting in the new Richfield City Hall and Municipal Center Tuesday night. To celebrate the occasion they welcomed the Color Guard from the 130th Composite Squadron Silver Air Patrol from Lakeville, as well as a clarinet quartet from the Richfield Symphonic Band.

'Concerts in the Park' Kicks-Off With Richfield Symphonic Band

Richfield's Concerts in the Park summer concert series gets underway for the season with a performance from the Richfield Symphonic Band.

The Richfield Symphonic Band performed at Augsburg Park Thursday evening under the lead of Conductor Paul Maybery as the first performance in Richfield's *Concerts in the Park series. The concert opened with Herbert's "The President's March" and played selections of various styles  including fox trot, waltz, classical, patriotic selections including "The Stars and Stripes Forever" by John Philip Sousa, and even a solo with Dennis Opland playing the euphonium.  The audience enjoyed the show from lawn chairs, blankets, or just a nice spot on the grass. The atmosphere was relaxed and there was plenty of room to stretch out and get comfortable.  The Concerts in the Park series is sponsored by *Richfield-Bloomington Credit Union and will …

Richfield Band Boosters Hold Holiday Fundraising Concert

Hoping to help with the cost of student instruments, the Richfield Symphonic Band pairs with schools and parents for holiday show.

Supporters of Richfield Public School's band programs gathered at Richfield United Methodist Church on Sunday to help raise funds to buy new equipment and pay for instrument maintenance fees. The Richfield Symphonic Band, conducted by Paul Maybery and featuring a performance by guest vocalist Carl Mackenzie, played a concert of mostly holiday songs to a half-filled main chapel. The concert aimed to increase community awarness of the programs and to fill the gaps in funding, according to Karen Libra, president-elect of the Richfield Band Boosters. "Bringing the community and students closer together and realizing that everyone's shooting for the same goal [was the main purpose of the concert]," she said. "We want to provide kids with the …
