Richfield Rotary Seeks Applications for Community Service Grants

Applications are being accepted until April 19.

Editor's Note: The following is a Richfield Rotary press release. Richfield Rotary Foundation is seeking applications for its 2013 Community Service Grants. Proceeds from this year’s successful Sweet Affair fundraiser will be distributed to Richfield area non-profits selected by committee. Richfield Rotary Foundation accepts grant proposals each winter for funding in the spring.  Typically, individual grants have ranged from $500 to $2,000 and are awarded to groups serving the community of Richfield and for international projects supported by the club. Rotary Announces Patty Peterson as 'A Sweet Affair' Headliner

The first of its kind fundraiser will feature a three-course meal, wine, musical performances and a silent auction.

'A Sweet Affair' Replaces Rotary's Annual Wine & Chocolate Fundraiser

In an attempt to reinvigorate its fundraising efforts, the Richfield Rotary Club is going with a new fundraiser this upcoming year.

For nearly 20 years, Richfield Residents and their friends have enjoyed the Rotary Club of Richfield sponsored annual Wine and Chocolate Tasting and Silent Auction. This year the Rotary Club is planning a fundraising dinner on Friday, Feb. 15, called "A Sweet Affair," which will be held at the Embassy Suites Airport on 34th Avenue and I-494. A Sweet Affair will replace the Wine and Chocolate Tasting, but the proceeds will still go to benefit local and international non-profit organizations. Four Students Receive STRIVE Scholarships

Four Richfield High School students were awarded STRIVE (Students Taking a Renewed Interest in the Value of Education) Scholarships from Richfield Rotary for their efforts to improve their attendance and GPAs during the past school year. Each year Richfield Rotary offers the STRIVE mentoring program for high school juniors and seniors. Students are identified by school counselors as having high potential that has not yet realized. Students and mentors meet once a month for programs that teach life skills and scholarships are awarded at the completion of the yearly program. PHOTOS: Rotary Gives $10K to Local Organizations, Projects

The Richfield Rotary Club welcomed grant recipients to accept the cash for various projects at its weekly Thursday meeting.

Fifteen local organizations and projects were awarded a total of $10,000 by the Richfield Rotary Club Thursday morning: (To learn more about the recipients, click on the name of the organization highlighted in blue.) Each recipient will use the funding to continue services, create a program or help others in need. For example, Richfield's AVID program will use the money to fund a ACT preparation course for high school juniors in the fall, while Headway Emotional Health Services will provide backpacks and school supplies to Richfield familes who use its services and Pregler is organizing a trip to Washington D.C. for fifth-grade students. Up to 100 scholarships for people to study at Rotary Peace Centers will be awarded later this year.

The Richfield Rotary Club is seeking applicants for Rotary Peace Fellowships, an international 15-to-24-month scholarship program to earn a master’s degree in international studies and peace and conflict resolution. Rotary International will award up to 100 such scholarships for study at Rotary Peace Centers at leading universities in Japan, Argentina, England, Australia, Sweden, and the United States. Rotary’s goal is to provide educational opportunities to those who will promote knowledge and world understanding as future global leaders. Richfield Liquor Store Director Key to Annual Wine Tasting's Success

The 18th Annual Wine, Beer and Chocolate Tasting will continue a longstanding partnership between Richfield Liquor Stores and the Richfield Rotary Club.

For nearly two decades Bill Fillmore, a 30-year city employee and current department director for Richfield Liquor Stores, has been instrumental in making sure the Richfield Rotary Club’s annual Wine, Beer and Chocolate Tasting Gala continues to be one of the largest and most successful of such events in the metro. The tasting will be held at the Minnesota Valley Country Club in Bloomington this Friday, October 21 from 7 to 10 p.m. In addition to the more than 200 wine varietals available for tasting, Friday’s event will feature an array of chocolate and beer samples, appetizers, silent and live auctions, a raffle and live music. Richfield Rotary Gears Up for 18th Annual Wine & Chocolate Tasting Fundraiser

Wine, beer and chocolate lovers will mix, mingle, and indulge at the Richfield Rotary's 18th Annual Wine and Chocolate Tasting, one of the Twin Cities’ largest wine tasting events, Oct. 21, 2011 at Minnesota Valley Country Club, 6300 Auto Club Rd., in Bloomington. 1) Season pass sales for the Richfield Pool will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Passes can be purchased until 6 p.m. at the pool’s bathhouse. 2) The following Richfield High School (RHS) students were nominated for the Tom Spooner Award: Patrick "P.J." The Richfield Rotary and Richfield Optimist Club presented the Richfield girls basketball team with the proceeds from the Holiday Classic Tournament in December 2010.

The Richfield girls basketball team accepted at check for $2,000 from the Richfield Rotary and Richfield Optimist Club at its game on Feb. 18. The $2,000 came from the Holiday Classic Tournament the team hosted at Richfield High School in Decemeber 2010. The money will go into the girls basketball booster fund.
