PHOTOS: Augsburg Park Hosts the Sounds of Dan Perry and Ice Cream

Dan Perry and Ice Cream entertained young and old Thursday evening as part of the Concerts in the Park series of performances at Augsburg Park this summer.

Getting things going with the signature Motown classic, "Dancing in the Streets," Dan Perry and Ice Cream had the crowd that gathered in Augsburg Park tapping their feet and singing along from their chairs and blankets on the lawn. And then out came the bubble machines! Children danced and played in the bubbles tirelessly as the band played a variety of well known songs such as Niel Diamond's "Thank the Lord for the Nighttime," "Top of the World" by The Carpenters, and "Stoned Soul Picnic" by The 5th Dimension. They even covered a Reba MaEntire tune. Check out the photo gallery above for pictures from the park, especially all the children playing in the bubbles. Straw Bale Gardening Provides a Solution for Lack of Gardening Space, Poor Soil

Do you want to grow your own vegetables, but don't have the room or have bad soil? Straw bale gardening could be the perfect solution and a professional will be teaching a class in Richfield about it soon.

Joel Karsten started out on a farm near Worthington, MN helping his father with the dairy cows, the crops and eventually, the tree nursery. But he learned his love for gardening from his grandmother, who worked in her garden until she was 92 years old. Motivated by his grandmother’s example, Karsten headed to the University of Minnesota to get a degree in horticulture science, becoming a certified nursery and landscape professional–essentially, a professional gardener. Then, nine years ago, on an early morning drive through farm country, Karsten heard a caller on a rural radio talk show ask a gardening expert about using straw bales as a way to container garden. The show’s host admitted he’d never heard of such a thing, but Karsten was …

Richfield's Weekly Review

Winter Sports End While More Snow Falls

Richfield, Holy Angels sports teams close out winter season and whatever else you may have missed from the week that was.

The week was marked by yet another winter storm warning for Richfield and much of the state on Saturday and Sunday. Tons of snow came floating down from the sky on Sunday, causing crashes, headaches and frowns across the state. While the weather was the topic of the weekend, much more went on in town throughout the week: Government House Rep. Linda Slocum (D-Richfield) applauded Gov. Mark Dayton for his veto of the Republicans’ budget bill. She called the bill reckless and said the bill would’ve taken Minnesota in the wrong direction. The Neighborhood Files Local resident Brenna Pederson was recognized for her achievements in art at the Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards (MSAA) at the Minnesota College of Art and Design (MCAD).
