No weapon was used in the incident.
Richfield's TCF Bank at 6501 Richfield Pkwy. was robbed at approximately 11:42 a.m. Friday. According to an FBI press release, the robber approached the bank teller, provided a note and demanded cash. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the robber fled on foot. No weapon was displayed to the teller. The robber was described as an African American male, with a dark complexion, approximately 5-foot-10, 185 pounds and about 40–50 years old. He was reportedly wearing a dark waist length coat, dark jeans, dark rimmed glasses and a dark knit cap. The FBI is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of this subject. The 19th annual Richfield Citizen Police Academy program was recently completed with 24 graduating, from the weekly class. The 15-hour course covered topics such as an aministrative overview, patrol procedures, police communications, criminal investigations and traffic enforcement. There was also a complete tour of the police facilities, Hennepin County Crime Lab and much more. Even a visit from the K-9 Officer Rocky and his handler Nate. Richfield officers say they want to serve the City of Richfield with honor.
The first Richfield police officers were sworn in to duty on Jan. 31, 1938. There were only two of them. Today, the Richfield Public Safety Department employees roughly 40 officers. In early September, the City of Richfield released the above video as a small glimpse into what the officers and the department strive for in the community. Kare 11 is reporting police responded to a report of an emotionally disturbed man and a possible hostage situation just after 9 a.m. Friday.
Richfield Police are currenly investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday morning. According to Kare11, police were called to a home on the 6600 block of Park Avenue just after 9 a.m. on a report of an emotionally disturbed man and a possible hostage situation. An officer did discharge his or her weapon and authorities are now investigating. According to the Police Clips Facebook page, police have not confirmed whether the shooting was deadly. Police Clips also reported the Bloomington Police Department is handling calls for Richfield, however, Patch has not been able to independently confirm that. The Richfield Public Safety Department releases its most recent crime reports.
An altercation between three Richfield High School students, and one student not from RHS, occurred just after school hours Friday, Sept. 14. Richfield officers responded to the scene on a report of a fight at approximately 2:49 p.m. Friday. "This was a continuation of a previous conflict from last year involving specific students," Principal Jason Wenschlag told Richfield Patch in an e-mail. "Because it was right after school, and on 70th Street, it was a little more difficult to contain, so some of us adults were holding other kids back from getting involved and/or holding back those involved."
