Will Popeyes Ever Open in Richfield?

Patch has been told yes. Find out the latest below.

Fans of Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen were stoked last fall to hear a location was being planned for Richfield. However, nearly six months later, the restaurant has yet to be delivered, and Richfield Patch is getting plenty of inquiries as to when it will happen. While an exact opening date has yet to be announced, on Sunday Popeyes confirmed with Patch that an opening is targeted for July 2013. As previously reported by Patch, Popeyes had said it was aiming for a spring opening, barring any construction complications. Popeyes did not say if any delays caused the shift from spring to summer. Popeyes to Open in Spring

An exact date has not been given.

Popeyes Louisianna Kitchen will replace the former Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant at the Hub Shopping Center. An exact date has not been released. "Our records indicate the restaurant is proposed to open in the spring, pending and construction delays, etc.," the company said in an e-mail to Patch. "Hopefully we are able to accommodate that timeline without any hitches." Construction crews are currently working to transform the former KFC into a Popeyes style restaurant. Popeyes Chicken Coming Soon to Richfield

The former KFC restaurant will soon become a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.

Popeyes, the second largest fried chicken chain in the country, acquired 14 bankrupt francise KFC locations in Minnesota—including Richfield's—this past November, despite KFC's attempts to keep them under its brand. A bankruptcy judge cleared the sale of the locations, even though KFC itself backed a higher bid for the Twin Cities restaurants, according to a Star Tribune article. Popeyes to Take Over Richfield, Twin Cities KFC Restaurants

A bankrupt Kentucky Fried Chicken franchisee is selling 14 metro area locations, according to the Star Tribune.

Popeyes, the nation's second larges fried chicken chain, is nipping at the heels of Kentucky Fried Chicken, the nation's largest chain, as it makes a major push to strengthen its presence in the Twin Cities. According to the Star Tribune, AFC Enterprises, Popeyes' Atlanta-based parent company, agreed to buy 14 Twin Cities KFC restaurants from a bankrupt KFC franchisee. The Richfield location at the HUB Shopping Center is one of the restaurants slated for sale. Other locations include those in Hopkins, Savage, Rosemount and Bloomington. Currently, Popeyes has just one Twin Cities restaurant location on Lake Street in Minneapolis near Uptown.
