Will Popeyes Ever Open in Richfield?

Fans of Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen were stoked last fall to hear a location was being planned for Richfield. However, nearly six months later, the restaurant has yet to be delivered, and Richfield Patch is getting plenty of inquiries as to when it will happen. While an exact opening date has yet to be announced, on Sunday Popeyes confirmed with Patch that an opening is targeted for July 2013. As previously reported by Patch, Popeyes had said it was aiming for a spring opening, barring any construction complications. Popeyes did not say if any delays caused the shift from spring to summer. Richfield Patch covered a lot of different stories, topics and events throughout 2012, but there were a few that stood out as the most interesting, important or possibly infamous to our readers. The following is the No. 4 story of the year. *** While news of Popeyes plans to take over a number of KFC locations didn't hit until late October, fried chicken fans flocked to Richfield Patch to get the details on the deal. Fourteen bankrupt Twin Cities KFC locations, including the one in Richfield, will likely be taken over by Popeyes. KFC's parent, Yum Brands Inc., wasn't exactly pleased with the Popeyes deal. Richfield KFC Shutters Doors; Popeyes' Takeover Pending

Popeyes is attempting to take over more than two dozen bankrupt franchise locations, including the Richfield location.

At least since Monday, Richfield's Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant has had its doors locked, fryers off and chairs put up on tables. However, the space may not be dark for long if AFC Enterprises, the Atlanta-based parent company of Popeyes, gets its way. As previously reported by Richfield Patch, AFC agreed to buy 14 Twin Cities KFC restaurants from a bankrupt franchisee and plans on turning the restaurants into Popeyes locations. KFC is fighting the restaurant conversions, hoping the restaurants will retain the KFC name under new management, according to Business Insider. …
