The sting happened along the I-494 corridor, according to police.
The Richfield Public Safety Department's Special Investigation Unit arrested 10 men for engaging in prostitution in a public place during a sting along the Interstate 494 corridor Tuesday. According to the department's Facebook page, the SIU was assisted by the Bloomington Police Department. Police say Andy Morales assaulted a woman at Motel 6 after she told him she was pregnant with his child, and later found him to be in possession of multiple firearms and drugs.
Minneapolis resident Andy Morales, 22, is facing seven felonies after Richfield police responded to a domestic assault at the city's notorious Motel 6 Feb. 12, and a subsequent search of his residence. Morales is charged with one count of domestic assault by strangulation, one count of first-degree possession of a controlled substance and five counts of a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. According to the criminal complaints, Richfield police responded to Motel 6 on a report of a domestic assault at around 4 a.m. Feb. 12. A 6-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy were pulled from an in-ground pool during a winter storm in December 2012.
Thanks to the quick thinking of two citizens, as well as emergency, police and fire personnel, two children survived frigid water temperatures after entering an in-ground pool in Richfield last December. A 6-year-old girl fell into the partially-filled pool and her 8-year-old boy cousin jumped in trying to save her. The girl was unconcious and in critical condition when finally pulled from the water. Now those first responders will be recognized during an award ceremony at the Feb. 26 Richfield City Council meeting. Police are urging people to be watchful in their neighborhoods.
The Richfield Public Safety Department is reporting a surge in residential burglaries in town since Feb. 1. The following was released by the department in crime alert Thursday: Nine residential burglaries have been reported in Richfield since February 1, 2013. Most of the crimes occurred during the day while residents were away from home and involved forced entry into the back of the residence. Items stolen include electronics and jewelry. Seven of the burglaries occurred west of 35W. No suspect description is available. Richfield Police are urging people to be watchful and aware of suspicious activity, vehicles and individuals in neighborhoods. A Bloomington man has been charged with attempted second-degree murder after allegedly shooting a man three times, including once in the head on Jan. 3, 2013 in Richfield. Anthony Terrell Jenkins, 20, was taken into custody in connection with the shooting on Jan. 8 and was officially charged soon after, according to the Richfield Sun Current. Police arrested Thomas Rashaun Gibson when they spotted him driving too slowly in Richfield, then learned that he had large quantities of heroin and cocaine in his possession.
A Waseca man with more than a dozen failure-to-appear citations, and dozens more driving violations, is facing serious drug charges after police stopped him in Richfield and found large quantities of heroin and cocaine in his possession. Thomas Rashaun Gibson, 30, is charged with two felonies: first-degree heroin possession, which has a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison and a $1 million fine, and second-degree cocaine possession, for which the maximum penalty is 40 years in prison and a $500,000 fine. Gibson is also charged with obstructing the legal process, a gross misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $3,000 fine. Police say Terrance Trevelle Hill raped the girl at her Burnsville home after she woke up from a nightmare and sought comfort.
A Richfield man has been charged with raping a Burnsville girl in 2010, who was 10 years old at the time of the alleged incident. Terrance Trevelle Hill, 27, is charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony with a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $40,000 fine. Each charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 12 years in prison and a $12,000 fine. According to the criminal complaint, the mother of the victim, who is now 12, came to the Burnsville Police Station on Dec. 15 and told officers that Hill had assaulted her daughter in 2010 at her home on Greenhaven Drive. Police say Andrew Jerome Bigbee strangled the victim, then picked her up and threw her off a deck into a backyard fire pit.
A Richfield man has been charged with strangling a Richfield woman, then throwing her off a deck into a backyard fire pit. Andrew Jerome Bigbee, 46, is charged with domestic assault by strangulation, a felony with a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine. The victim came to Richfield Police Safety on Dec. 29 and reported the assault, which took place on Dec. 28, according to the criminal complaint. The victim said Bigbee, her boyfriend, had been emotionally abusive throughout their relationship, but his abuse had recently turned physical.
