Taco Bell Hopes to Return to Richfield in Former Burger King Spot

The city council will hold a public hearing at Tuesday night's meeting. However, Menards representatives will likely be on hand to recommend against the project as is.

Richfield may once again be home to a Taco Bell in the near future. The Richfield City Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday regarding a conditional use permit and variances for the business to revamp the former Burger King building at 140 E. 78th St. Burger King closed its doors last year after a fruitless attempt to be included late in the redevelopment of the adjacent Menards property. Taco Bell had a Richfield location on 66th Street near Penn Avenue that closed, and is now occupied by Mediterranean restaurant Aida. Read: Burger King Shutters Doors According to the council's agenda, city staff believes that Taco Bell's parent company, Border Foods, Inc., has met all code and zoning requirements in its proposal, and has applied for…

The parking at this big a-- store is awful, where is everybody supposed to park! With employee cars there, all the snow, the Menard trucks, no place for customers, the city council should be ashamed the way they approved this and threw Burger King to the wolves.   more ›

Where did you park, Linda? I believe parking is now permitted on the north side of East 78th Street (the frontage road between Hwy 5/494 and Menards). There should also be parking available behind Menards on S 2nd Ave. There is also Sunday parking available on Nicollet. The parking lot is pretty ample, but of course, there will be times when there isn't room. Considering that this development is …   more ›

Menards on Schedule to Open by Spring 2013

Crews have been working on the two-story superstore for months.

Despite its outward appearance, the new Richfield Menards is still a little ways from opening. According to Menards spokesperson Jeff Abbott, there is not an official opening date set for the store. All he could say was the company's plans to open sometime this winter or early spring were still in place. Despite attempts by the owners of the neighboring Burger King to stall the project, Menards got the final green light to redevelop its average, outdated store into a sprawling, two-story superstore in December 2011. At the start of the new year, the company began clearing the inventory and temporarily reassigning employees. Then came the demolition of both the Menards and former Jun Bo Chinese Restaurant buildings, clearing the debris and …
